Algarve Wines . . .
Wine
The leading red wine is Dão; others, such as Borba and Redondo
are also extremely good with a smooth taste. All restaurants stock their Vinho da Casa (house wine), either tinto (red) or branco (white). The Vinho da Casa will be the least expensive wine on the wine list and you can trust the restaurant´s choice unless you feel confident to study the Lista de Vinhos.
There is a wide choice of Portuguese wines available, almost all restaurants stock Portuguese wines and it will be rare to find other international wines if dining in a traditional Portuguese restaurant.
As well as many good red and white table wines, Portugal also produces (in the northwest) Vinho Verde (green wine) this is a slightly sparking and light wine available in white, rosé, and red varieties, however white is the most popular. It benefits from a low alcohol content and has a slight effervescence, leaving a pleasant tingle on the tongue. |

Port, a wine from the Douro region of Northern
Portugal, shouldn't be missed. Order a Porto Branco (white port, served
chilled) as an aperitif before dinner. After your evening meal, have
a glass of sweet, dark vintage port to round off your evening.
