Algarve Golf . . .
Known
internationally for golf, the Algarve has a tremendous choice of
courses and there are 9, 18, 27 and 36 hole greens available. Courses
stretch all along the southern coast from Sagres in the west to
Vila Real de Santo António in the east bordering Spain.
All of the courses have excellent views of either the coast or rolling
hills inland or in some cases both. The greens are maintained to
a very high standard. At the latest count there are 28 separate courses and 450 widely differing holes to play.
Penina Championship course was the home of the Portuguese Open in
1998 and 1999. Quinta do Lago staged this prestigious event in 2000
and 2001, whilst Vale do Lobo was the venue for 2002. Quinta do
Lago is also the venue for the Volvo Masters in 2002.

| The Golf TAP Open takes place each November when golfers coming from all over the world attend this event, considered as one of the Algarve´s largest amateur golf tournaments.
The
diverse range of golfing facilities in the Algarve are open to
one and all. The quality of what is on offer has been officially
recognised with the award "Worldwide Golf Destination
of the Year 2000".
Visitors
will find that many of the courses offer discounted prices on
green fees and buggy hire. If visitors intend to play a number
of rounds considerable savings can be made by booking from abroad
(UK) perhaps using the Golf Passport Scheme. |
